Luca Businaro, president of Assosport, is calling on the banks to support the Italian sporting goods sector as the latest figures from NPD indicate that the country's consumption of its products fell by 6 percent for apparel and 2 percent for footwear in the 12 months ended last March. Collectively, Assosport's members had an operating profit before amortization of €156 million in 2011 on 1.92 percent higher revenues of about €4.2 billion. Assosport has raised so far €80,000 to fund sports training programs for more than 500 children in the Veneto region of Italy.
