After several years of development, Madshus and Rottefella have presented a new system called SkateX, specially developed for skating. The Redline Skate X boot and the Rottefella SkateX binding system are set to be launched worldwide in fall 2024.
The two Norwegian cross-country skiing brands state that SkateX is an entirely new binding and boot system, the first ever developed exclusively for skating. The innovation of SkateX consists of a new connection point between the binding and boot, which is moved further under the foot. When the boots are connected this way, more energy is transferred via the leg and foot onto the snow. This new connection results in improved skating due to a more powerful and stable stride.

The SkateX system has undergone rigorous field testing and technical validation. According to Madshus and Rottefella, the system has been tested in collaboration with top athletes, teams and institutions. In particular, former cross-country skiing and cycling coach Ove Sollie and the Norwegian School of Sports Science (NIH) have tested the system. Sollie confirms that SkateX can lead to significantly higher speeds in various conditions.
“As the original cross-country ski brand since 1906, we are dedicated to building the most innovative and functional products for every cross-country skier,” commented Bryan Cook, Global Brand Director at Madshus. “This collaboration with Rottefella on the SkateX system is yet another example of our desire to continually push the boundaries of what is possible.”
Madshus is headquartered in Biri, Norway, and is part of the Elevate Outdoor Collective.
