Mike Ashley has put the Newcastle football club up for sale for the third time. He already failed to find a buyer back in 2008, after placing some of his shares in Sports Direct on the London Stock Exchange, and again in 2009. To facilitate the sale and encourage investments, interested parties are to be given the opportunity to defer payment of a substantial part of the purchase price. The reason given by Ashley for the new attempt is that he could not compete financially for expensive players with the owners of other leading English clubs. Ashley bought the club ten years ago for £134.4 million (€152.0m-$176.9m). Newcastle United showed a profit of £900,000 (€1.0m-$1.2m) on revenues of £126 million (€142.5m-$165.9m) for the 2015/16 financial year. After being relegated twice during his tenure, the club made it back to the Premier League for the current season.
