Backing a call for football clubs all over the U.K. to ditch their home shirts for their Boxing Day matches between Dec. 26 and 28, Mitre launched a specially designed Mitre x Shelter football on Dec. 10 on its website, mitre.com, pricing it at £12. The Pentland-owned brand has pledged to donate £5 from each sale to Shelter, a British charity for the homeless, to help support its #NoHomeKit campaign. The charity has also been encouraging individuals to give £5 to the cause, but it says it has only raised £4,203 (€4,953-$5,598) from 102 supporters so far, short of a £250,000 (€295,000-$333,000) target. Shelter notes that 25 households will become homeless in the space of a 90-minute game, and that more than 180,000 households have lost their homes since the start of the Covid pandemic. According to Shelter, a growing number of teams, fans and partners from every level of the game have already signed up to help it raise awareness of the housing emergency this Christmas by swapping their home shirts for their away or third shirts. However, the Premier League has reportedly confirmed that teams playing on Boxing Day will not be permitted to wear away kits for the purpose.
