Nearly 650 people turned up in Sölden, Austria, for a winter sports test event organized earlier this month by the FGHS, the Dutch sporting goods industry federation. The event has been held annually for 19 years, but it was the first time that retailers were encouraged to bring along consumers. The sunny weather contributed to the buoyant atmosphere as the Dutch visitors tested the latest gear including skis, snowboards, bindings, protective equipment and accessories. The event brought together about 270 retailers, 260 consumers, 90 brand representatives and 20 people involved with the event's organization and its sponsors – a remarkable turnout for the Dutch market. It was supported by Ispo Munich along with the ANWB, the Dutch automobile club, which publishes a ski magazine. On the basis of reactions during and after the event, the FGHS is almost certain to repeat the inclusion of consumers and is considering several options (such as an extended testing period) to make the mix equally successful next year.
