Newton Running is apparently going through a major restructuring process, concentrating on independent running specialists and online sales. Runners World and the Boulder Daily Camera have reported that Danny Abshire, one of the two founders of the American company, has left it, and that the other co-founder, Jerry Lee, is now in charge. He has also become the company's primary shareholder following the pullout of a minority investor, Fireman Capital Partners. Led by Paul Fireman, who made a lot of money by selling Reebok to Adidas, the fund had injected $20 million into Newton six years ago. The company has closed its flagship store in Boulder, Colorado, and reduced its staff from a high 47 people to 15, according to the reports.
