Nielsen, which owns the Outdoor Retailer and Interbike shows in the U.S., has agreed to acquire The Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show as well as the Tailgating Industry Association with immediate effect from Showproco, LLC. The Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show has been held over the last six years, and it continues to be managed by Stanley Schwartz and Hardy Katz, who ran the famous Supershow in Atlanta until its demise. The Tailgating Industry Association was formed in 2011 for an industry that reportedly generates annual revenues of up to $12 billion with tailgaters, i.e. sports fans gathering around stadiums before the matches to get the best spots and enjoy camaraderie. The next edition of the show will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Jan. 17-19. The show's operations will continue to be steered from its office in Miami, Florida, with the support of the Nielsen headquarters based in San Juan Capistrano, California. The takeover by Nielsen reflects the growing licensing business and a commitment of the tailgating industry at the group's shows. Currently, Nielsen operates a number of sports-related shows in the U.S.: the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, Interbike Expo, Health & Fitness Business Expo and the Independent Bicycle Dealer Summit, as well as the ASD and Imprinted Sportswear shows.
