Nike and Adidas will both sponsor the 2016 International Gay and Lesbian Football Association World Championship, which will take place in Portland, Oregon on Aug. 6-13. Adidas' U.S. headquarters is located in Portland while Nike's corporate headquarters is located nearby, in Beaverton. The championships, which is expected to attract around 400 LGBT soccer players from around the world, will run at Providence Park, home field of both the Portland Timbers, a soccer club competing in Major League Soccer, and the Portland Thorns, a professional women's soccer team. The tournament includes both men's and women's divisions. Nike #BETRUE will host the official welcome party on Sunday, Aug. 7, at its downtown Portland store, in the presence of Nike athletes. Nike will provide each participant with a “swag bag” (or a goodie bag) with products of its #BETRUE collection. Adidas will also provide, among other things, a swag bag with exclusive products as well as playing equipment. Since the inaugural championship in 1992, the event has been held in 16 different cities around the world.
