Nike has launched the Nike Circular Innovation Challenge 2018, a search for innovations that will help it promote a waste-free, circular economy and a more sustainable future. The Challenge is open to legal residents age 18+ of the eligible countries, which include the U.S., Canada (excluding the province of Quebec), Mexico, the U.K., France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Japan, China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Australia. Participants are supposed to have identified promising new solutions for Nike Grind materials, a palette of recycled materials recovered from used footwear and manufacturing scrap. With Nike Grind materials, participants can either develop a new solution to advance the physical footwear recycling process or design brand new products. One grand prize winner will receive $30,000 while up to four more innovators will receive $5,000 grants to further advancing their concept. All promising projects will be considered for further partnership with Nike.
