Nike has persuaded a subcontractor in Indonesia, PT Nikomas, to give an extra $1 million to the workers at its factory as part of a settlement with their union over extra payments for overtime. More precisely, workers will get a total of $1,002,830 in the next two months for 593,468 hours of overtime that had not been paid to them in the last two years, or the equivalent of $1.69 per hour. In turn, officials at the factory have agreed to participate in management training programs addressing cultural sensitivity and other issues related to workers' rights. A task force will be set up to process any of the employees' grievances.
