Nike has won a case in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which found that the Jordan logo did not violate the copyrights of a photographer, Jacobus Rentmeester. The court admitted, however, that Nike's Jumpman logo was obviously inspired by his photo. Rentmeester had already lost in a federal court in Portland a first lawsuit filed in 2015 against Nike over the logo. Nike had paid for limited use of the photo, which had appeared in Life magazine in 1984, but then staged a similar photo on which it based its iconic silhouette.
