Nike will be laying off 500 or more employees – some executives included – from its headquarters. Among them will be executives and the 192 employees of several company-run nurseries. To this end the company has filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice with the state of Oregon. The lay-offs are due to begin on Oct. 1 and should cost $200-$250 million in severance pay. They seem to align with a company-wide reorganization we have already reported on: the “Consumer Direct Acceleration” strategy and the rechanneling of product into men’s, women’s and kids’ categories.
