California-based outdoor, leisure and snowsports brand 686, founded in 1992 by skateboarder, snowboarder and visionary Michael Akira, and Nikwax, the Washington-based manufacturer of technical cleaners and waterproofers for outdoor gear and apparel founded in 1977, have teamed up to reduce waste and keep 686’s gear performing at its best over the life of the garment.

“As part of our commitment to sustainability, we’re responsible for making sure the goods we produce perform to their fullest potential for the longest time possible,” said Jake Moyer, Customer Experience Manager at 686. “A dedicated partnership with Nikwax supports this commitment. Their PFAS-free aftercare products empower our fans with simple solutions to extend the performing lifetimes of their 686 outerwear investments while doing so in an environmentally responsible way that aligns with our key sustainability pillars. We’re looking forward to educating our fans about these solutions and bringing product care to the forefront.“

The partnership highlights 686’s understanding that sustainability is not a destination but a way of behaving to lessen its impact on the planet. To kick off the partnership, 686 will be offering free samples of Tech Wash to customers in the USA purchasing through its site during the initial launch of its 23/24 outerwear collection this fall. Additionally, 686 will be using products, education, and assets provided by Nikwax to ensure the best possible product care experience for every fan.
