None of 125 people working at the head office of Champion Europe in Carpi was injured. Same for the 75-odd employees at the nearby office in Campogalliano of Game 7 Athletics, the Italian sporting goods retail chain owned by Champion Europe. However, they were all told to go home last Tuesday, after the second shock wave of the earthquake that devasted the region of Emilia-Romagna, causing a lot of structural damage and leaving 17 persons dead, 350 injured and thousands homeless. The factories of Blumarine and some other textile and apparel companies in the area of Carpi, very close to the area where the earthquake had its epicenter, were partly destroyed. The buildings of Champion Europe and Game 7 Athletics were spared. They are expected to open again on Monday, unless the earthquake strikes again.
