Oakley is trying to stop the previously reported sponsorship deal between the golfer Rory McIlroy and Nike, suing them both for breach of contract. Oakley, a former sponsor of McIlroy, says that it tried to use its right of first refusal to match Nike's offer, but the golfer and his agent, Conor Ridge, ignored the counteroffer. Oakley wants a judge to prevent the deal with Nike. Nike, for its part, has not publicly announced the new deal, nor has it commented on the lawsuit. McIlroy's managers told ESPN, the U.S. sports TV channel, that the golfer has fulfilled all of his obligations to Oakley. His deal with Nike, worth $248 million, takes effect on Jan. 1.
