On Oct. 1, Signa acquired a 49.99 percent stake in Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), thereby attaining a 100 percent stake in Galeria Kaufhof Karstadt. HBC remains the owner of the deficit-ridden Hudson's Bay stores in the Netherlands. In December 2018, Signa and HBC agreed to a joint venture to run the Karstadt and Galeria Kaufhof department stores in Germany and other retail operations in Belgium and the Netherlands, renaming the company Galeria Kaufhof Karstadt. The Karstadt and Kaufhof online stores have recently been merged into a new online store, called galeria.de. In addition to Galeria Kaufhof Karstadt, other online retailers belonging to Signa will be connected to the new galeria.de online store. Signa plans to open its first pilot stores under the common Galeria concept in spring 2020.
