On paper, July seems to have been a weak month for sporting goods retailers in Sweden as their sales fell by 0.2 percent as compared to the same month a year ago. It was a show of strength, however, considering that sales had risen by a full 13.4 percent in July 2015, in which sales rose by a full 13.4 percent. In fact, the total Swedish retail sector recorded a decline of 1.1 percent in July. The figures, which were compiled by the Swedish Retail Research Institute, also show that sales volumes for sporting goods fell by 4.0 percent in July, which means that prices continued to rise. Total sales of sporting goods for the first seven months of the year were up by 4.4 percent in value as compared to the same period in 2015.
