Mario Jorge Machado has been elected President of the European Apparel and Textile Confederation (Euratex), the voice of the European textile and clothing industry at the level of the EU institutions. The organization’s General Assembly, which met in Brussels on June 14, also nominated the outgoing President, Alberto Paccanelli, as Honorary President in recognition of over a decade of commitment to Euratex and the European textile industry, the organization said in a statement.

Machado is currently a shareholder and director of Portuguese firm Adalberto Textile Solutions. He has served as president of the Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal (ATP) since 2019. Machado represents ATP on the Board of the Portuguese Business Confederation (CIP), where he chairs the strategic council for the environment and sustainability.

Euratex General Assembly also elected four other members of the Presidency team: Michael Kamm (Zwilling Gruppe, Germany), Barbara Cimmino (Yamamay, Italy), Grégory Marchant (Union Textile de Tourcoing, France) and Ismail Kolunsag (Cross Tekstil, Turkey). During the Assembly, Euratex also welcomed new memberships from Cematex and Forschungskuratorium Textil e. V., as well as a partnership with Reju (France).
