Peter Dankaart, the founder and owner of Daka Sports and one of the most driven personalities in the Dutch retail market, has passed away aged 74. Dankaart established Daka Sports in 1965 in a basement in Rotterdam with his wife, Anke, and turned it into a prominent Dutch retail group. Although it initially focused on the area around Rotterdam and The Hague, Daka expanded further with the acquisition of Telstar Megastores in 2015, and joined Intersport. The retailer currently has about 400 employees in 13 stores, the largest of them on 4,500 square meters in Rotterdam. In an interview with Sport Partner two years ago, Dankaart was confident that his three children would take the business forward.
