Philip “Flippy” Hoffman, one of the pioneers of big-wave surfing, has died at the age of 80. He surfed in Hawaii in the 1950s, and then went on to be co-owner of Hoffman California Fabrics, which supplied printed fabric to companies including Ocean Pacific, Quiksilver, Volcom and Stussy.
