Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced on Nov. 21 his new cabinet, which includes a reshuffling of some portfolios. Pilar Alegría, who has been at the helm of the Ministry for Education and Vocational Training since 2021, will continue heading the education system but has now gained an additional sports portfolio. Sports previously fell within the portfolio responsibility of culture minister Miquel Iceta, who Sanchez has now replaced. Iceta has been responsible for sports policies within the Spanish cabinet since 2021. Alegría is now also replacing Isabel Rodriguez as government spokesperson. Born in Zaragoza in 1977, Alegría is a prominent member of the Socialist Party (PSOE).
