Arena has announced the launch of the Powerskin ST NEXT, a competitive swimsuit made from recycled fabrics. The suit’s exclusive design, inspired by the ocean, is meant to celebrate and promote sustainability. The ST NEXT is said to be lighter, faster and greener than its predecessor, the Powerskin ST 2.0. More than 60 percent of the yarns used in its manufacture come from pre- and post-consumer waste that would otherwise have ended up in landfills. Its fabric has a reduced rate of water absorption, making it feel 20 percent lighter in the water, claims Arena. The construction, materials and logo-branding of the Powerskin ST NEXT have been approved by the International Swimming Federation (FINA), which clears it for use in FINA-sanctioned events at all levels. The Powerskin ST NEXT is also available in a junior version (for ages 12 and under). To serve as ambassador for the new suit the brand has struck a deal with Eleanor “Ellie” Smart, the 27-year-old American athlete who competes in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.
