A first university course in virtual negotiation and the metaverse as they apply to sport will debut this October. Behind it are the sports-industry consultancy Valgo (the name translates to “I am worth” or “I have value”) and the University of Castille-La Mancha (UCLM), with its group for research in the management of sports organizations and facilities (Grupo IGOID).

The entire course will take place online, aptly enough, and cover business models in the virtual environment, metaverses (as there is no one overarching metaverse) and the various platform “realities” (virtual, augmented, mixed, extended).

It will also cover the “new economy” of NFTs and virtual property. This term will be familiar to readers who’ve been around the block a few times. The business press was using it at the turn of the century to contrast e-commerce against the old economy of traditional retail and wholesale. Was e-commerce different in its fundamental workings? Would it upset the system?

A full course description (in Spanish) is available online.
