Jamaican track legend Usain Bolt has filed to trademark the image of his iconic victory celebration pose. Bolt submitted the application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Aug. 17. According to the filing, “the mark consists of the silhouette of a man in a distinctive pose, with one arm bent and pointing to the head, and the other arm raised and pointing upward.” The application also states that Bolt intends to use the silhouette image as a logo on products like clothing, sunglasses, jewelry, bags, restaurants and “a retail shop carrying exclusive track and field products.” Bolt, now 36 years old and father of two twin boys, retired after the 2017 World Championships in London. Before this recent application, he filed to register a similar trademark for his victory pose in 2009, but that registration has since lapsed under U.S. law.
