Puma has committed to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from owned and operated facilities as well as its energy needs by 35 percent by 2030 as compared to 2017, a target approved by the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi). On June 25, the SBTi released new guidance on measuring and reducing value chain emissions in the apparel and footwear sector. The SBTi – a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) – defines and promotes best practices in science-based target setting, offering resources and guidance as well as independent assessment and approval of companies' targets. Puma has also said that it aims to reduce emissions coming from purchased goods and services by 60 percent per million euros in sales between 2017 and 2030.
