Puma has reached an out-of-court settlement with Urwyler & Hostettler, a supplier of furniture and wooden household items in Switzerland that adopted a logo with a leaping animal. The company, which sells the Made in Ermatingen brand, filed an application to register the logo for sports footwear, sports apparel and other sports items with the Swiss Federal Institute for Intellectual Property (IGE) in September 2015. Puma appealed against the registration but this objection was rejected by the IGE. Puma says the legal dispute came to an end as Michael Urwyler and Andy Hostettler, the owners of the Made in Ermatingen brand, agreed to deregister their brand logo and to use another one. In exchange, Puma will not appeal against the IGE ruling and will renounce any further legal action on this matter. As a sign of amicable settlement, of an undisclosed amount, Puma handed over a donation for the puma enclosure of the local Plättli zoo, near Frauenfeld in the canton of Thurgau. The zoo director also received a jersey of the Swiss national football team, sponsored by Puma.
