PureGym, the U.K.-based operator of affordable fitness clubs, has opened its first gym in the U.S., located in Tysons Corner, Virginia. It will be followed by two others shortly in Springfield, Virginia and Elkridge, Maryland. Franchising is a possibility going forward. Memberships start at $9.99, with no long-term contractual obligations. Following recent acquisitions in Denmark and Switzerland, PureGym has about 500 clubs in the U.K., 180 in Denmark and 40 in Switzerland. It also has a franchised gym in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
