Rebel Sports stores in New Zealand raised their turnover by 10.9 percent to 46.7 million New Zealand dollars (€30.5m-$34.9m) in the three months ended April 26, which is the first quarter of its fiscal year. The Briscoe Group, which operates Rebel Sports stores in New Zealand, reported that same-store sales were 8.4 percent ahead of last year. It has opened two stores since the end of the same fiscal quarter in 2014, bringing the network to 33 stores at the end of April. Briscoe's gross margin improved due to a variety of factors, including improved inventory management and more effective marketing. The group also benefited from foreign exchange hedges taken when the New Zealand dollar was significantly stronger against the U.S. dollar.
