Reporting a drop in Oakley's sales of sunglasses in North America, due to poor sales in the sporting goods channel, Luxottica says it plans to centralize all of Oakley's marketing functions at its global headquarters in Milan. It will move Oakley's U.S. wholesale operations to its New York office and the brand's retail activities to the Ohio office of Luxottica Retail. As Oakley's 250 stores need to be fed with more than just eyewear, Oakley will continue to develop apparel, footwear and accessories at its head office in California, but the ranges will be repositioned and made more consistent with the eyewear. With all these changes, the brand's head office in California will reportedly see 159 employees laid off. More in Eyewear Intelligence.
