Blue Tomato has opened its first store in Norway. The Austrian-based company, which is part of the U.S. action sports retailer Zumiez, moved into a 425-square-meter store at Grensen 13 in the heart of Oslo. As part of the opening on Dec. 9, led by store manager Stefan Kurz, a snowboard and freeski contest (“Game Of Snow”) was held at Norway’s only indoor ski resort, Snø Oslo, on Dec. 11.
With over 600 employees and more than 400,000 products, Blue Tomato is one of the world’s largest online retailers in the snowboard, freeski, surf, skateboard and street style segments. The webshop at blue-tomato.com, now available in 14 languages, registers 125,000+ visitors daily.
In recent years, the company has also greatly expanded its presence in brick-and-mortar retail, and Blue Tomato already operates more than 60 stores in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Finland. Blue Tomato was founded in 1988 by a former European snowboard champion from Austria, Gerfried Schuller, and sold to Zumiez in 2012.
