Sprinter – the biggest and more techical sports retail banner within the Iberian Sports Retail Group (ISRG) – confirms that has opened its 173rd physical store and its first one outside of Spain. According to CMDsport, the Sprinter store is located at the Zuidplein mall in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam, occupying the premises of a former Aktiesport store. Along with Perry Sport, Aktiesport is a Dutch retail chain belonging to Sports Unlimited Retail (SUR), which was owned by JD Sports Fashion, the controlling shareholder in ISRG. However, JD transferred its holdings in the Netherlands to ISRG in May, placing them under ISRG’s management. As CMDsport speculates, this switching of stores from one banner to another could be a hint that Sprinter is planning for a bigger international expansion. Meanwhile, Sprinter is about to inaugurate two more stores in its domestic Spanish market, building up to nine new openings so far this year. Another three stores are to follow before 2021 comes to an end.
