The collective-bargaining agreement drafted by Spain’s Federation of Department Store Unions (FASGA) for El Corte Inglés and other big retailers proposes a raise of 6 percent for employees earning about €18,500 a year for 2023, with a second 6 percent raise to follow in 2024. FASGA had proposed raises of 3.2 percent for 2021 and 2022.
Other proposals include a reduction of eight working hours from the annual total, 32 days of vacation, a reduction by 25 percent of staff for weekends and holidays (so as to provide all with one free weekend a month), training in digitalization (to enable promotions) and a complement for future pensions. The current agreement comes to term on Dec. 31.
