Decathlon France has opened a new Decathlon City store in central Paris, continuing its push into dense urban areas with smaller-format, multi-sport retail concepts. According to Sport-Guide.com, the 700-sqm store is located on Rue de Rennes, near Montparnasse station, an area with an estimated nine million pedestrians annually. This is the third Decathlon store in Paris itself – after openings in Saint-Germain (2018) and Batignolles (2019) – and the eighth in the capital overall.
The Montparnasse location focuses on three key categories tailored to the neighborhood: urban mobility (notably cycling), running and fitness. A smaller section rotates seasonally and includes basic items for hiking, swimming, tennis and climbing.
“It’s not about square meters; it’s about proximity—being where the customers are,” said Bastien Grandgeorge, CEO of Decathlon France. He added that the City format is now fully conceptualized and profitable, with the first two locations ranking among the top-performing Decathlon stores in Paris in terms of revenue growth. Customers at the new store can also access Decathlon’s full inventory digitally, with 48-hour delivery to home or store.
Decathlon is actively expanding its urban formats across France, with smaller specialist stores set to open in Montpellier, Rennes and Bordeaux by the end of 2025. Store sizes and category offerings will vary depending on location.
The Montparnasse store is located in a space previously occupied by Boulanger, another retailer within the Mulliez Group.
