Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free Co has launched a lifestyle-led campaign with Lululemon at its Hainan mall, adding to a sports portfolio that spans performance and casual segments as China’s athleisure demand rises.

Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free Co (HTDF) has partnered with Lululemon on a lifestyle led campaign at its Hainan duty free mall. The deal is part of HTDF’s effort to build a premium sports retail destination in the province.

The “Dynamic Movement” campaign centers on wellness, travel and active self expression. It includes in store activations and consumer events, including a branded fitness session at HTDF’s mall complex.

The focus is less on the event itself than on what it indicates about HTDF’s category expansion. The Hainan based retailer has assembled a sports and outdoor portfolio that spans technical performance and lifestyle segments. On the performance side, HTDF lists Lululemon, Descente, Kolon Sport, Salomon, Montbell and Under Armour, which has its first dedicated Hainan outlet, covering running, training, outdoor and winter sports. The lifestyle tier includes adidas, Columbia, Ecco, Fila, Nike and Hazzys.

Athleisure and outdoor product is among the fastest growing segments in China’s consumer market, and duty free Hainan, which draws domestic visitors seeking price advantages versus mainland retail, has become a priority channel for international brands. HTDF’s expanding brand roster reflects that opportunity.

The retailer describes its approach as a “duty free plus lifestyle” strategy, investing in retail environments that combine shopping with fitness culture, events and experiential programming. The bet is that experiential retail can lift return visits, dwell time and repeat purchases. Whether HTDF can deliver that at scale with a holiday dependent shopper base remains an open question.

Category expansion continues. Salomon is preparing a full category flagship concept within HTDF’s mall, and the company says further international athleisure brand openings are planned in the months ahead.
