Richard Engelhorn has passed away at the age of 80 after a long illness. For more than 50 years, the German retail executive had been a representative of the third generation of the company that was founded in 1890 by his grandfather, Georg Engelhorn, and Adam Sturn. It was not until February that Richard Engelhorn left the active management of the company and took on the role of chairman of the supervisory board. He was responsible for diversifying the product range into various specialized stores, setting up a designer floor within the company's fashion store and opening one of Europe's biggest sporting goods stores. Engelhorn initiated his succession at an early stage. In 2003, he brought in his son, Fabian Engelhorn, and Andreas Hilgenstock, nephew of Peter Engelhorn, to become the fourth generation in the company's management. Since 2015, Fabian Engelhorn has been in charge of the company's operations. Andreas Hilgenstock takes care of strategy and public relations, and Simon Engelhorn, who joined the company in 2012, assumed the management of Engelhorn's IT and logistics divisions. In addition to the family, the management of Engelhorn includes Armin Weger, managing director of fashion and sport, Tristan Brandt, managing director of Engelhorn Gastro GmbH, and Daniela Eisenhauer, who heads up the commercial department.
