Schweizer & Sport und Mode's quarterly survey of Swiss sporting goods retailers indicates that their sales fell by between 10 and 12 percent in 2011, with footwear suffering the lowest damage. The main reasons were unseasonable weather patterns, a weak economy and the strong value of the Swiss franc. In particular, the market dropped by an estimated 10 percent in the third quarter and by between 12 and 15 percent in the final quarter, as compared to the previous year.
