Shimano Europe's new headquarters, in the Dutch city of Eindhoven, will open in January 2017. The facility will accommodate more than 200 employees, after an initial period in which there will be around 150. The Eindhoven office is supposed to become the most important one for the company in Europe, from which it will coordinate all product improvements and development. The new office will mainly concentrate on research while the actual product development will continue to be done in Asia, at least over the next few years, said the company. Eindhoven was chosen because it is the location of a large number of R&D companies, and because of the presence of many high-skilled technical engineers in the area. The vicinity of an airport, unlike the current location in Nunspeet, was also taken into account, as it will make it easier to travel from the corporate headquarters in Japan to the European head office.
