Skechers has donated 15,000 pairs of new shoes to children affected by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico as part of the company's Bobs from Skechers philanthropic shoe program. Hurricane Maria hit the island in the second half of September and early October 2017, but many people in Puerto Rico are still impacted today by the effects of that violent storm. It took nearly a year just to completely restore power to the island. The recent relief effort is the latest in a series of initiatives that Skechers has launched for hurricane victims in Puerto Rico. In February 2018, the footwear brand donated 5,000 pairs of socks and 2,400 backpacks in care packages to Puerto Rico's city and remote residents. The company has also partnered with Delivering Good to distribute Bobs from Skechers shoes, goods and relief to flood victims in Texas and Florida following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma in 2017. Since the program's inception in 2011, the Bobs from Skechers program has already donated new shoes to around 15 million kids across the U.S. and in more than 30 countries worldwide.
