Skechers is receiving a beating from bloggers in the wake of its new Shape-ups campaign for girls. The ads show animated girls getting excited about the “extra height and bounce” that they get by wearing the shoes. The ads also feature cartoon boys dressed as fast food and snack food, “tempting” the girls with unhealthy calories. Critics have said that the company is encouraging young girls to be self-conscious about their bodies. Blogs have criticized Skechers, saying that children shouldn't worry about toning their butts and thighs. One site, Change.org, is forming a petition to ban the collection. Skechers justified the shoes by saying that they aren't made for pre-schoolers – the smallest size they come in is a 2, or the average size for a 7-year-old.
