Snipes continues its expansion in the U.S. with the acquisition of New England-based sneaker retailer Expressions, which operates 35 stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Expressions was founded in 1989 as a fashion-oriented family business. In the years that followed, the company was able to open several stores in a small area in Massachusetts. Additional locations were opened in shopping centers in Massachusetts and Connecticut. From late December 2003 to the present, the company continued its expansion program and has since earned a reputation as a leader in urban fashion in New England.

This is the second major acquisition in the U.S. for Snipes, following Jimmy Jazz last December, a footwear chain operating more than 170 stores in the U.S. The acquisition in December already increased Snipes’ retail presence in the U.S. from 100 to nearly 270 locations.

Snipes was founded in 1998 and is based in Cologne, Germany. Previously, the company operated primarily in Europe, with more than 350 stores in France, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Poland. The company has been part of the Deichmann Group since 2011. Prior to its two recent acquisitions in the U.S. market, Snipes had already acquired two other sneaker chains in the country in 2019, KicksUSA and Mr. Alan’s. The retailer also made headlines with the launch of its upscale Snipes 2.0 concept in the U.S. in July 2020.
