Some of the latest numbers from the NPD Group about shares in the U.S. athletic footwear market indicate that Skechers has over taken Adidas as the second-largest sports footwear brand for the quarter ended in March. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the NPD Group puts Skechers' market share at 5 percent, ahead of Adidas at 4.6 percent. They both trail far behind Nike with 62 percent (including the Jordan brand). The NPD Group was quoted as saying that most of Skechers' gains in footwear came from the walking and casual footwear categories. Skechers has been making inroads with its technical running footwear as well. NPD added that Adidas footwear sales in the U.S. appeared to have bottomed out and that it has been doing well with the ZX Flux and Boost ranges.
