Sport England has announced it will invest £88 million (€104.2m-$108.7m) of funding coming from the National Lottery and the government in grassroots sports across 26 national governing bodies of sport. Cycling is supposed to get more than £17 million (€20.1m-$21.0m), the highest amount. Other recipients include hockey with £9 million (€10.7m-$11.1m), gymnastics with £8.3 million (€9.83m-$10.25m), badminton with £7.25 million (€8.59m-$8.95m), and cricket with £7.6 million (€9.00m-$9.39m). In addition to direct funding to the different bodies, Sport England has also launched two open funding programs to support bids for hosting major sporting events and getting more people involved in and around major sporting events, which have been allocated £1 million (€1.18m-$1.23m) and £2 million (€2.37m-$2.47m), respectively.
