Sport Master, the Danish sports retail group, is searching for a new managing director. Jens Høgsted, who held the job for about five years, has left the company. Formerly a buying group, Sport Master was acquired in 2012 by Nordic Capital, and it has about 100 stores around the country. In 2015 Nordic Capital added Unisport, a leading online retailer of football products, selling in Denmark and many other European countries. Together with Rezet Sneaker stores, launched and acquired in 2015, they form the Nordic Sport Group. It reported sales of about €200 million last year, according to the website of Nordic Capital, but Finans reports that it suffered a pre-tax loss of 22 million Danish kroner (€2.9m-$3.4m), due to investments. The company said it was searching for a managing director with another profile to prop up the turnover and profit amid a sluggish retail market and tough competition, from rivals including Intersport and Sport24 as well as international online retailers. But Sport Master insists that it has robust assets, such as its online business and stores in prime locations. Michael Christiansen, chairman of the board, will act as executive chairman and lead Sport Master until a new managing director is appointed.
