Sport Zone ended the first half of 2014 with 77 stores in Portugal and 34 in Spain. According to its parent company, Sonae Group, discretionary spending began to go up in Portugal in the fourth quarter of 2014 and has been accelerating since, reaching a growth rate of 14 percent in the second quarter of this year. The group's turnover improved by 4.7 percent to €2,306 million in the first six months, but the sales of Sonae SR, which groups Sport Zone and other chains for consumer products, grew by 12 percent to €579 million, with a 6 percent increase in Spain to €152 million. Sonae SR's underlying operating losses before amortization (Ebitda) fell by 60 percent to €7 million.
