Sport Zone España has been removed from the Spanish corporate registry following its merger with JD Sports Fashion and Sprinter in the Iberian Sports Retail Group, in which Sonae, the Portuguese parent of Sport Zone, has a 50 percent stake. JD holds 35 percent of the shares and Sprinter 15 percent. The 20-odd former Sport Zone stores in Spain are being closed or transformed into Sprinter stores or factory outlets. The Sport Zone banner will remain on about 100 stores in Portugal and 20 in the Canary Islands.
