Sportamore, the Swedish online sports retailer, reports that its sales soared by 29 percent to 701.6 million Swedish kronor (€73.5m-$78.4m) last year. The group achieved an operating profit (Ebitda) of SEK 19.5 million (€2.0m-$2.2m), while the figure was negative at SEK 36.4 million in 2015. Ebitda became profitable in Sweden in 2015 and it reached SEK 21.5 million (€2.3m-$2.4m) last year. The retailer posted an operating loss of SEK 1.9 million for other Nordic markets, much improved compared with the operating loss of SEK 37.0 million in 2015. Sportamore ended the year with a strong quarter, raising its sales by 40 percent for the last three months of 2016. The group said that weather conditions were favorable, with a cold autumn and the early arrival of winter. Sportamore adds that it has reinforced its position in all Nordic markets. The active customer base increased by 55,000 customers in the quarter to more than 700,000, and the average order value also improved, due to strategic changes and the favorable weather. The year was marked by the launch of sportamoreoutlet.se, enabling the retailer to segment its offering. The online retailer announced in January that it was investing in an automated warehouse solution for a logistical platform in Eskiltuna, to increase scalability and to reduce costs.
