Sportex, the trade fair for the Danish sports industry, which was scheduled for the second week of August in Velje, has been cancelled due to a sharp drop in the number of registered exhibitors. Among the reasons behind this decline is the decision by Intersport Danmark to organize its own buying days. This comes after Obi Sport, Intersport Danmark's largest shareholder, agreed to take over the buying group's central functions in May. Sportigan, another influential Danish sports retailer, pulled out of the trade fair as well. About 55 companies took part in the August fair in recent years, but only 25 companies requested booths this year and the organizers feared that more would drop out. Sportsbranchen, the Danish industry association, regards the cancellation as a temporary “time out.” It remains to be seen if Nord-Fair, the organizers of Sportex, will continue with the winter fair scheduled to start at the end of January.
