Sporting goods sales showed an 11.3 percent increase for the month of March in Sweden from the same period last year. This confirms the sporting goods sector as one of the fastest ones at retail during the first quarter of 2016. After starting the year with cold weather and snow, sales were up year-on-year by 15 percent in January and 14.4 percent in February. The shift from winter to spring came earlier than usual this year and put the sales of bikes, running shoes and spring clothing in focus a little earlier than usual, hence the excellent figures. Overall, sporting goods sales in Sweden increased by 13.1 percent during the first quarter. The sector that came closest in terms of sales growth is clothing and footwear, which increased by 4.3 percent. The retail sector as a whole in Sweden showed growth of 5.9 percent in the first quarter and 4.9 percent in March.
