Sports Experts, the price-driven retail chain of Sport Eybl & Sports Experts, the single largest Austrian sports retailer, has opened its second German outlet in the town of Erding, which is known for its beer and is located outside Munich. The new store has a selling surface of 2,200 square meters. Sports Experts entered the German market a decade ago and caused an uproar then among the local Intersport community, because Eybl/Experts was then itself an Intersport member. At that time, Sports Experts quickly opened three stores in Germany, but the chain had to close two of them in the cities of Bochum and Munich. The group has kept its door in Regensburg, which has a surface of 1,800 square meters. Last year, Sports Experts' sister format, Intersport Eybl, opened a store in the German city of Passau. The store, however, is called Sport Eybl and not Intersport Eybl, as is usually the case in Austria. In fact, Eybl has not been a full-fledged member of Intersport Austria for four years, but it continues to be a buying partner and a licensee bearing the Intersport brand name in Austria, but not in Germany.
