Sportsworld Cruquius is to be taken over at the start of October by Intersport Twinsport, the largest Intersport member in the Netherlands, Sport Partner reports. The store of about 6,000 square meters is one of the five megastores run by Sportsworld, which was launched by Inge van Kemenade as a retail concept selling branded products for all sorts of sports activities and urban wear. Sportsworld stores were rebranded a few years ago as Topshelf, but then Van Kemenade invested in department stores under that name and the sports stores reverted to Sportsworld. The venture into department stores led Van Kemenade to take over some of the locations of the failed V&D chain, but several of them closed again after a few months. Van Kemenade was quoted as saying in Sport Partner that the sale to Twinsport was a logical step, as Sportsworld wanted to focus on stores with its own locations. Intersport Twinsport runs 18 sports stores, one of them trading as The Athlete's Foot. Its store in The Hague was one of the earliest adopters of the updated and upgraded concept launched by Intersport International Corporation last year. A few weeks ago Daka Sport, the second-largest Intersport member in the Netherlands, ended its partnership with the retail concept, which is run in the Netherlands by the Euretco group.
